IS anyone else experiencing a slow down? |
Lead | ||
|
I am a pso and over the past week it has unusally slow . I was logged in 8 hours yesterday and only recieved 3 calls. This is a huge drop in the number I
usually get. Just thought I check and see how everyone else is doing?

Actually, I had very consistent calls tonight. Maybe only 2-5 minutes in between them. I don't know what company you're with, but you may want to check
to see how they dispatch the calls. ???

Just in general, things have been slow lately. There are fewer new callers for the same ad $$ and regulars are calling less often, what with the economic
downturn. If you worked for a dispatch company that is careful with their staffing, you might not see any difference, but lots of companies overhire, then when
things slow down there's not enough work to go around.

Slow times | #3 | ||

I believe that is what is happening with the dispatch company I work for. They hire a lot of girls and my calls drop to almost nothing and then boom I guess some quit and my calls pick up. I don't understand why companies do this because it makes us girls that have been with the company awhile want to move on elsewhere. I know I have thought about leaving this company. I have regulars here and hate to leave that though. These times really suck tho when I sit home all day for 8 hours and get 3 calls . I believe that quality always out does quanity .I suppose these owners of these companies are only thinking $$$. This is a tough business and I am glad I don't have to depend on what I make to survive. |

There's not really any immediate disadvantage to overhiring for them. Customers like having more girls to talk to, and for a lot of companies, there will always be more girls out there to take the place of those who quit. It's not like a regular business that hires regular employees. The hiring costs are minimal, since there is no training, no benefits to pay, and no programs to sign you up for. Personally I feel that the advantages of having long-term skilled workers would be greater than having a temporary influx of new meat, but they make their own decisions. |

Here's my experience | #5 | ||
|
I was a dispatcher and manager for 10 years, so this is my experience: We HAD to hire new girls all the time because even though guys have their favorites,
most are always looking for someone "new". Yes, I know you can pretend to be new; change your voice, change your name, blah blah blah.....but most
of these guys have heard your shit, maybe even only once before, but they WANT someone new!!! I've had girls who were really good and I could trust they
could probably fool the guy, but we're talking maybe 5 out of 50 girls. If a really popular girl who normally got 7-10 calls a night, all of a sudden
started getting maybe 3.....they always assume its because we hired too many girls...when in actuality its because all your regs are calling up and saying,
"you know I really love so-and-so but do you have anybody new?" From an owner's point of view...new girls are always easier to find than new
customers.

yes, I have been having very slow times this last month since the economy went belly up! what are we struggling people supposed to do without a steady
paycheck?? just goes to show you this kind of work is very unsteady and unreliable unless you have a back up job with other income. don't quit your day
job thats for sure!

"Unsteady and unreliable"?? Really? Being self-employed is a lot more reliable than working for a company that could go out of business with no
notice. Even in a poor economy this is still a great line of work. You may have to work smarter these days but not necessarily harder. As far as a "day
job" goes - I haven't done any other work than this for the better part of 9 years and shudder at the thought of any other type of work.

If business has been slow, don't blame "the economy." The news media love to mau-mau bad news. Ignore it.
In economic down times entertainment does well, and "sin" businesses do especially well. Automakers, banks and insurance companies may be begging the government for financial bailouts, but are such companies as Sony Pictures, Budweiser and Philip Morris? Or the casinos? Their revenues go up and down, but they don't crash, and some do extremely well at times when "respectable" businesses are tanking. Also think about your advertising and promotion. It's a classic story that in the depression of the 1930s cautious companies that cut spending on advertising lost out to companies that aggressively advertised. It's important that you be very good at what you do--but if no one knows it, you won't be successful. If you have been using brand creation methods and database, interactive and engagement marketing techniques to establish and promote yourself, you should not be noticing a significant business slowdown. If you are just out there promoting yourself the same way everyone else is, especially focusing on the internet, neglecting other media, you could be facing some problems. A lot (maybe most) of the guys cruising the internet for a sex hit are looking for videos or photos, not phone. Or they are looking for escorts, not phone. There are huge numbers of guys who cruise free porn but never buy any sex services--because they are too timid, too embarrassed, don't think it's worth it, whatever. But they can be "turned." Figure out how. And there are still a lot of guys who never go online, don't even use computers. Are you reaching them? Have you tried? If whatever you have been doing no longer works as well as it once did don't give up, do something else.

in answer to AllieXXX......I have been cut off working for a pso co. without a reason, just cut off the line, with no explanation. you never know what your
next paycheck will be like, and you have to pay alot of income taxes working for yourself. you have been one of the lucky ones maybe, but working for a pso co.
doesn't give one much security or perks. many reg callers have maxxed their credit cards in these economic downtimes and because there is so much free and
cheap porn and webcams now, a reg pso isn't making what most of them are making now. I don't care what you say, it is a very , very competative type
job and unless you are working alittle cheaper or spending alot to market yourself, its not all that lucrative, and there is no job security in it either.

Well I have been with the same company for 8+ years. I call that job security!
Of course its competitive but what business isn't? As far as taxes go, if you get a good accountant you will find that almost everything is deductable - your internet, phone... just about anything you can think of. I work direct-dial so there is no "working cheaper"; the rate is set. When you work this job.. REALLY WORK THIS JOB... then you write your own check. You decide what you make by how available you are and how good you are at getting the clients to call you back repeatedly. Getting with a good company is important but if you are no good on the phone then no company on earth can provide an op with the talent. And as far as "not all that lucrative"? Honey you should see my car/townhouse/wardrobe/jewelry, etc, etc. But, having said that, I work direct-dial (you will never make the big bucks doing dispatch), I do this full time, live alone, am single, and have no children to interfere with work. I work smart and have learned A LOT in the past 9 yrs. Sorry you had bad experiences, but don't paint the whole industry with such a wide brush. Many of us are doing just fine and its our only job and we love it. |

Motowngirl714 wrote:Motowngirl I am not sure how long you have been doing this but I have to disagree with a lot of what you say. I have been with the company I am with going 6 1/2 years... Job Security .... I know each day that as long as I have my phone lines I have a job. As far as perks ... I have all the perks I want, I work the hours I want, work from my house (no gas expense to get back and forth work, no eating out at lunch, or driving back and forth to work). It is most of my regs that are keeping my pay check going. My rate is still the same as I work direct dial. Spending still the same on marketing myself. Yes there have been slow periods but if you budget wisely, and are good at your job then it all works out! |

I'd just like to echo what everyone else has said. I'm 24. I will be doing phone sex well into my 40s as long as it stays legal. It is the most secure
job ever. Spreading yourself out over a STABLE company that can pay your mortgage... then things like Niteflirt, affiliate blogging, and other porn resources
for extra cash... you can live the "work for yourself" lifestyle that most people dream of... in this industry.
But not by just sitting on your ass and waiting for the phone to ring. With the recession, we saw a 15-20% drop in sales from July to about October. It is non existant now. The lonely CEOs are calling... and the girls have stepped up their trolling efforts. And I wholeheartedly agree with jenniferfowler's point about new girls. Ya have to hire new girls to appease some new clients. Period. They get sick of you guys. They can tell you 100x's on the call they love you.. but they get sick of the same old same old. |

I agree with Motowngirl.... Its hard right now. As a career Direct dial girl things are sloooooooooow.. to the point of bill collectors starting to call.
This is a very lucrative business..when guys call. And as Jennifer pointed out..it dosent matter how many regulars you have and how much they love you ...this
is phonesex people...these guys get bored and move on. Unless your one kick ass dom and scare them to death no matter how much they have spent on you in the
past... eventually they do move on.
In these hard economical times I suggest a company that pays per hour.... there are a few... some are loved and some hated. But they will pay you for your time even if its just base pay of 9-10 hr. I know as a DD girl who has been working 60-80 hr a week and bringing home 150-200 the past few mos. 9.00 an hours for 40 hours a week looks pretty darn good. Cuz my bills still need to be paid and I am not to proud. I'd rather take a little BS and know that I am making 9.00 an hour that work for 60 hours with the hopes of 60.00 an hour and get 3 ..30 min calls all week. |

phonegirlsathome, I hear ya. Things are getting worse out there as we speak. I have never seen it this bad. For the amount of hours that have to be put in,
there is hardly anything coming back to make a living on. I don't know what companies are being referred to as paying by the hour. I have researched these
jobs extensively and have not come across that. Maybe someone can mention a few of these companies. With the schedules and the low call volumes and no perks to
these types of jobs, they are becoming less attractive for those of us trying to make a living at home. Half the fun is making your own scheules and now this
is becoming harder. I don't see the perks I used to see. Guys are wanting more from these expensive calls, they want to see stuff which is why webcam girls
are making way more money than us pso's. It looks like after 4 yrs of doing this, I will have to go outside of home to make money and just rely on this as
a secondary , extra type money maker, because you certainly cannot count on this for your living unless you work 24/7 and have no outside life at all. Good
Luck to us all!
