Wow, PSS, you just made my day! But I gotta say that every time you post, I learn something!

Good advice? Hmm.... Certainly, "Don't talk so fast--slow it down!" Easy way to stretch out the call, plus it gives you time to think--and listen, especially if you are a little nervous at the beginning of the convo.
But maybe the best piece of advice was that the calls are not about me, nothing the caller says is directed at me. He is talking to a fantasy character in a fantasy scene that he builds in his own mind. I'm just there to help him along and make it as satisfying for him as I can. My ego, my vanity, my personality are not involved and have nothing to do with any of it. His dime, his "O." (I guess I'm basically restating your third point--it's a really important one!)
Someone also once said that the calls, to her, were like dreams--very intense and real while they were happening, but once she hung up the phone they dissolved away and later she could remember little more than that she had taken a call. Thinking of them that way helps fight burn-out.
